Join a team that’s shaping the future of smart materials and sustainable solutions. At Evonik’s Chester, PA facility, we're hiring a Logistics and Material Handling Supervisor to support our Precipitated Silica operations. In this leadership role, you'll oversee key logistics and material flow activities, support procurement, and ensure warehouse operations run smoothly.
This is a hands-on leadership role with a strong floor presence, blending daily engagement with warehouse and logistics operations alongside office-based planning, systems work, and cross-functional collaboration. If you lead by example, thrive in fast-paced environments, and enjoy solving problems in real time, we encourage you to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you’ll serve as a frontline leader overseeing all aspects of logistics, inventory, and material handling operations. You will:
Actively oversee daily logistics operations on the plant floor and in the warehouse, supporting real-time issue resolution, coaching team members, and ensuring shipping targets are met for both finished goods and bulk products.
Supervise and coach the Shipping Coordinator and Shipping Operators; serve as a first point of escalation for issues and operational needs.
Oversee warehouse inventory management, including daily cycle counts, month-end reconciliation, SAP transactions, and purchase requisitions for packaging materials and consumables.
Manage procurement and inventory of technical spare parts in coordination with the Technical Manager to ensure availability for maintenance and capital projects.
Support the Logistics Manager on indirect procurement tasks, outline agreement call-offs, and SAP data entry.
Back up key roles, including the Administrative & Systems Assistant and Shipping Coordinator, to maintain continuity of site-critical operations.
Promote a safety-first culture and ensure team adherence to GMP and food safety procedures in alignment with Chester site expectations.
Engage cross-functionally with departments such as EHS, Maintenance, Packaging, Production, and Supply Chain to ensure smooth material flow and compliance.
Drive cost-saving initiatives by improving warehouse and procurement processes, reducing net working capital, and optimizing labor costs.
REQUIREMENTS
Associates degree or equivalent experience in technical procurement, technical maintenance, logistics, materials management, and/or plant operations
Experience in a process plant or manufacturing environment strongly preferred
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office; SAP experience highly desirable
Familiarity with MRO materials and industrial equipment terminology
Strong leadership and communication skills; experience working with unionized teams is a plus
A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, safety, and collaboration across functions
Must be comfortable with approximately 60% of time spent on the plant floor and in the warehouse, providing active oversight and support to frontline teams. The remaining time will be dedicated to planning, SAP/system work, and cross-functional coordination in an office setting.
Your Team & Impact
You will report directly to the Logistics Manager and play a key role in supporting operations at our Chester site, which is part of Evonik’s Smart Effects Business Line. You’ll lead a logistics team that includes direct and indirect reports (currently this would include a Shipping Coordinator, 3 Shipping Operators, 24 Packaging Operators, and 4 contractors), ensuring logistics run smoothly and safely to support business goals.

At Evonik, we foster a collaborative and inclusive culture where safety, innovation, and sustainability are at the forefront.
