Marie Curie is working in partnership with the Royal Free Hospital to establish two new palliative care services.

A Marie Curie staffed palliative care team will be based in the Royal Free A&E department and a 7-bed in-patient palliative care unit within the Royal Free, which will be open to direct access from A&E, other in-patient wards and the community.

The post holder will work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team to support palliative care provision in both the in-patient unit and the emergency department service. The post holder will provide a visible, accessible, and authoritative presence to whom staff, patients, and carers can turn for assistance, advice, and support.

The role also involves participation in the hospital's training and education work, e.g., undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, clinical supervision of junior medical staff, and internal and external healthcare professional colleagues. This will be in collaboration with the Royal Free specialist palliative care team and neighbouring palliative care services.

In addition, the post holder will also be expected to engage with the management, clinical governance, research, and service development activities of the service. Opportunities exist for the post holder to develop links with the well-established palliative care research team at University College London.
