Investment Intern

$18.83 minimum / hour minimum starting pay

Job Level: Individual Contributor

Shelter maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in geographic location, education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands.  Please remember that this is the starting base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position. 

What You Will Be Doing:

Work across multiple asset classes, including fixed income, alternatives and public equity, to support all Investment department functions. Provide critical research and evaluation of existing and new investment opportunities. Prepare and update various reports summarizing portfolio performance and economic trends impacting insurance and corporate pension portfolios. Conduct other ad hoc investment projects in accordance with department needs.

What We're Looking For:

  • Pursuit of finance, business or other analytical degree desired.
  • Exposure to finance and investment principles and an understanding of core financial analysis, including familiarity with CFA level 1 curriculum. Basic working knowledge of income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Introductory/beginner knowledge of equity and/or fixed income markets.
  • Intellectually curious, high-aspiring student with interest in institutional asset management. Individual initiative; attention to detail; high personal accountability.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and other financial software applications, including databases.
  • Demonstrated skills in Excel (non-beginner), business writing and calculating and interpreting basic financial and performance metrics.
  • Typically requires commitment to a minimum of 12-month work experience, including full-time in the summer and flexible, part-time schedule during the school year.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in working both independently and in team settings, with the ability to establish positive relationships with department staff and external partners.
  • Successfully completed core finance/accounting courses with minimum B passing grade.
  • Letter of recommendation from professor/advisor/previous employer.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
