JOB SUMMARY

 

With support from the home Club staff and Regional Director, Music Studio & Production, this position drives our Youth Development Outcomes through positive staff practices that create a high-quality Club Experience rooted in Fun, Recognition, Sense of Belonging, Physical Safety, Emotional Safety, High Expectations & Opportunities, and Supportive Relationships. The Music Studio & Production Assistant Instructor is responsible to assist, support, and help develop the art form to ensure it is aligned with the vision and focus of the organization’s production goals. The Music Studio & Production Assistant Instructor is accountable for helping out with the program areas, collaborating and assisting the Music Studio & Production Instructor and Teaching Artist. The position supports all studio programs and curricula for all members (grades 6th - 12th) and assist with all special projects and supportive functions related. The Music Studio & Production Instructor reports directly to the Club Executive Director or Program and/or Teen Director.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILIES:                                                                          

            

 Prepare youth for success

  • Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
  • Promotes and stimulates daily teen programs participation as well as participation in designated national and special events programs. Programming should be appropriate, in correlation with our organizational values, and yield active engagement from members and staff involved. 
  • Orients new members to art-centric & teen programs, special events, and opportunities as well as Club safety, program and disciplinary rules. 
  • Provide instruction that encourages youth to explore, understand, appreciate and apply creativity.

 

 

 

Program Deliverables

  • Help implements, monitors and evaluates programs, services and activities for members.
  • Recognizes Club members for program participation, efforts, and achievement.  
  • Encourage retention and participation.
  • Adheres to the Wallace Foundation’s 10 Principles of High-Quality Arts Programming, as adopted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta 

 

Youth Supervision

  • Creates an environment of clear structure and boundaries and utilizes positive youth discipline and behavior guidance as needed.
  • Assist with Teaching Artists and collaborate with the Music Studio & Production Instructor to support the art forms.
  • Ensures a productive work environment by participating in weekly Club staff meetings.

 

Supplies

  • Keeps supply room neat and orderly.
  • Instruct youth in proper care and use of tools and equipment.

 

Facility

  • Ensures program area is attractive, neat and clean and bulletin boards and flyers are current.
  • In partnership with supervisor, make and/or recommend needed repairs to studio space and/or equipment.

 

  Other Responsibilities

  • Ensures a productive work environment by participating in weekly Club staff meetings and Regional Music trainings and meetings
  • Participates as part of a Club and regional team to run quality programs by helping out where needed or directed
  • Participates in training/educational opportunities to expand knowledge and skills.
  • Handle other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary or important as assigned by supervisor. 

 

 

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Education

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Combined experience and/or training equivalent to a minimum of two years where:
    1. There is experience working with youth and knowledge of youth development.
    2. Training, and/or experience teaching youth while creating engaging learning experiences.

Skills

  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
  • Effectively manages relationships and brings problem-solving mentality to all relationships with all stake holders, including the general public.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality learning programs for youth.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • Interested in the Art Form.
  • Commitment to social emotional development in self and youth, including enhanced self-awareness, self-management and relationship skills.

 

ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS

Community-based location that serves youth, families and community members daily. Frequent deadlines. Atypical work schedule, including evening work. The position requires walking and climbing stairs; Light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.

 

 

EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION

Nonexempt employees are entitled, under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), to time and one-half their "regular rate" of pay for each hour they actually work over the applicable FLSA overtime threshold in the applicable FLSA work period.
