General Description:
In collaboration with the Director of Multilingual Learner Success and the Welcome Center and Family Advocacy Coordinator, the Welcome Center Specialist leads all school enrollment services for the growing population of Multilingual Learner (ML) newcomer families entering kindergarten through grade twelve. The Welcome Center Specialist ensures a smooth transition into school for all students and their families, working collaboratively with school-based personnel to address barriers to enrollment and facilitating cross departmental collaboration to meet additional needs. The Welcome Center Specialist also supports district wide enrollment initiatives, such as preschool and Specialty School/Open Enrollments for ML students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the daily operations of school enrollment within the Welcome Center and ensures all enrollment requirements are met.
- Communicates with families throughout the enrollment process, including conducting follow-ups to ensure enrollment completion and documentation of all student’s educational backgrounds.
- Supports school personnel in troubleshooting enrollment barriers for families.
- Serves as point of contact for RPS preschool enrollments.
- Supports the administration of WIDA testing for students.
- Connects families to school and community supports and resources pertinent to school enrollment.
- Attends community events to promote preschool, kindergarten, and Specialty School/Open Enrollment opportunities for ML students.
- Participate in professional development opportunities within and outside of RPS to build relationships with key stakeholders, such as school front office staff, in an effort to improve the efficiency and outreach of the Welcome Center.
- Maintains detailed data of enrollment services provided and common barriers to inform future support strategies.
- Communicates accurate and up-to-date information to teachers and school staff members.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Prior work experience in a public school division is preferred.
- The ability to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently is required.
- Knowledge of school enrollment processes and requirements is preferred.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills are required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and participate in evening and weekend events.
- Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity for the diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds of RPS families are essential.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications are required.
