Charter School Specifics: State law requires P.E. teachers to hold a specific P.E. certification to ensure that they possess the required expertise as listed in the Job Description requirements.
OBJECTIVE:
A Texas P.E. teacher's role includes instructing students in physical fitness, health, nutrition, and wellness; organizing and leading diverse physical activities and sports; creating and delivering engaging lessons; assessing and tracking student progress; and fostering a positive and safe learning environment that encourages physical activity and builds skills. Key responsibilities also involve maintaining records, communicating with parents, and upholding school policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- To conduct assigned classes at the scheduled times.
- To implement the designated curriculum completely and in due time.
- To plan and implement effective classroom management practices.
- To maintain a safe, orderly environment conducive to learning.
- To comply with requirements for the safety and supervision of students inside and outside the classroom.
- Teach students the principles of physical education, including fitness, health, and the benefits of an active lifestyle.
- Design and implement engaging physical education programs and lessons that cater to diverse ages, abilities, and needs.
- Instruct students on fundamental skills, techniques, and strategies for various physical activities and sports.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate student achievement through observation, formal assessments, and record-keeping.
- Guide and maintain acceptable standards of classroom behavior and create a positive learning environment.
- Educate students on the importance of exercise, healthy eating, and overall wellness.
- Work with other staff members to develop instructional goals and methods and communicate with parents about student progress.
- Serve as a positive role model for students, supporting the school’s mission and fostering a love for physical activity.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Required: Minimum of three years’ teaching experience in a Texas Public School.
- Ability to employ diverse instructional techniques and media suitable for various students.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Physical stamina to participate in activities and manage the demands of the classroom and gym.
- A positive attitude and ability to motivate students to be active and reach their potential.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
- These programs provide training in teaching methods, field experience, and coursework in areas of Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology.
- Required: Pass the state-required certification exams in physical education and general teaching knowledge.
- Required: Hold current certification in First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- License must be renewed every five years to stay compliant.
- Required: Valid Texas Certification in your area of instruction.
