Small Engine Technician / Powersports Technician at Big Sky Resort

Big Sky Resort is seeking a motivated and mechanically inclined Small Engine / Powersports Technician to join our high-performing Fleet Maintenance Team. In this hands-on role, you’ll help maintain and repair a variety of essential resort vehicles and equipment; from snowmobiles and ATVs to lawn gear and generators—that keep our operations running smoothly year-round.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with small engine or powersports experience who thrives in a collaborative shop environment but also works well independently. If you're passionate about mechanics and mountain life, this position combines both in a dynamic and supportive setting.

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of equipment including:
  • Snowmobiles, ATVs, UTVs
  • Lawn and groundskeeping equipment
  • Chainsaws, portable pumps, and generators
• Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, ignition, and fuel system issues
• Maintain accurate service and parts records
• Assist with broader fleet shop duties as needed
• Keep tools, equipment, and shop space clean and organized
• Follow safety protocols and resort-wide procedures
• Work a consistent 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. schedule, with potential weekend shifts (4 x 10-hour days)

Required:

• At least 1 year of experience as a small engine or powersports technician, or equivalent technical training
• Familiarity with 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine systems
• Ability to diagnose and repair fuel-injected and carbureted engines
• Knowledge of snowmobiles and ATV/UTV repair
• Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently and in a team
• Willingness to work in a mountain environment and in all weather conditions
• Ability to lift, move or pull up to 50 lbs as needed
• Able to stand, bend or stoop for up to 8+ hours per shift

Preferred:

• Powersports-specific certifications

• Experience with welding or light fabrication

• Prior experience working in a resort, ski area, or fleet shop
