Building/Enforcement Supervisor is a first-line supervisory class. The incumbent plans, assigns, organizes, and supervises the work of the Building Inspection Unit in the Department of Planning & Development Services; oversees the work of staff responsible for inspections. They may also investigate and initiate procedures to abate violations of State, Municipal, and County laws, building codes, grading ordinances, zoning laws, health, and safety; and performs related work as required.

PDS is responsible for long range land use planning, including the County of San Diego's General Plan, Climate Action Plan (CAP), and Zoning Ordinance. The department evaluates land use projects for regulatory compliance and environmental impacts, manages long range planning policy formulation, and related ordinances. PDS advises the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission on all land use projects, policy, and programs in the unincorporated county. PDS has seven major divisions: Sustainability Planning, Long Range Planning, Building Services, Code Compliance, Land Development, Project Planning, and Support Services.

You are invited to apply for Building Enforcement Supervisor, if selected, you will be an integral part of our mission. Our department is located at the County Operations Center, a modern 44-acre regional complex in Kearney Mesa. The Operations Center includes 18 structures and houses 19 departments, including an employee gym/workout center.
- Job Offer and Background Process begins in October 2025. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
Building:
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience inspecting buildings and/or building plan review and enforcing municipal, county, and/or state building codes; with two (2) of the four (4) years performing the most complex inspections including, but not limited to, commercial or high-rise buildings, tracts, apartments, and condominiums; OR,
- Two (2) years as a Building Inspector II or Plans Examiner with the County of San Diego.
Certifications:
Required within the first six (6) months of employment in this class:
1. Certification as a Building Official; OR,2. Certification as a Building Plans Examiner AND Combo Dwelling Inspector; OR,
3. Certification as a Combinations Inspector.
