Temporary Election Worker Specialist

Logistics and Warehouse – Route Driver


The County of San Diego Registrar of Voters (ROV), Logistics and Warehouse Operations has temporary job opportunities for the position of Election Worker Specialist.   Applicants must be dependable, detailed-oriented, energetic, and enthusiastic with customer service skills.

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

Requirements:

  • Valid California Driver’s License (required for driving County vehicles on County tasks)
  • Must wear employee ID badge, access card and official yellow ROV vest
  • Must follow all health and safety protocols
  • Must represent the Registrar of Voters in a professional/non-partisan manner

Knowledge of the following:

  • California vehicle laws and safety guidelines
  • Warehouse safety practices with emphasis on proper and safe lifting techniques
  • Basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
  • Basic use of a personal computer, printer, phones, radios, copy machines, calculators, or other office equipment (not required, but a plus)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate vehicles safely in varied traffic, weather, and road conditions
  • Proficient in using GPS systems, maps, and navigation tools; able to adjust routes as needed
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to meet daily collection schedules
  • Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge, including performing routine checks and identifying potential issues
  • High attention to detail to ensure all collections are accurate and secure
  • Physical ability to lift, load, and unload items repeatedly throughout the day
  • Accurate recordkeeping and documentation skills
  • Problem-solving abilities to address unexpected delays, closures, or equipment issues
  • Professional communication and customer service skills when interacting with voters or the public
  • Knowledge of and adherence to all relevant safety, traffic, and operational regulations
  • Learning new work processes and procedures
  • Detail oriented (matching of numbers, sorting, and packaging)
  • Work in fast-paced environment
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Perform physical tasks:
    • Required to lift up to 25 lbs.
    • Ability to perform repetitious tasks
    • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, grasping, and reaching
  • Work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed


Schedule

  • Assignment will be approximately 2 - 6 weeks
  • Shift will be part time, up to 8 hours per day with overtime and weekends as needed.  Some overtime will be mandatory to meet the needs of the Election.


Examples of Duties 

  • Inspect vehicle before and after route and complete vehicle log 
  • Monitor equipment and supplies
  • Answer questions from voters, observers, and the general public
  • Work as a team when on a route, completing official forms and using technology to track progress
  • Drive mid-size vehicle using a route list and a set schedule
  • Properly store supplies in designated locations
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the warehouse by using brooms, mops, disinfectants, solvents or other cleaning tools or supplies


WORK PERIOD

Applicants are required to attend a two-hour orientation once hired.  The orientation will be conducted by a Logistics and Warehouse Operations team members on the first day of work.  

Candidates selected for this position, will have staggered start dates that will correspond with the election cycle.  The start and end date of a candidate is based on the workload of the Logistics program.   Once an applicant receives background clearance, they will be notified by a Logistics supervisor and assigned their shift.  All candidates hired for this program will work at the ROV’s main office located 5600 Overland Ave, San Diego, CA.
