CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This position is categorically funded and exists based on the availability of funds. If funds cease to be available, the District may, at its discretion, implement a reduction in force that could result in the elimination of the position.
- This position serves District-Wide; applicants may be assigned to any district facility. Work hours and worksite locations are subject to change depending on department needs.
- A six-month probationary period must be successfully completed before the selected candidate is considered a permanent employee of the district.

Position Duties
- Assist:
- the Master Teacher in planning, supervising and implementing a specific age group program in accordance with center policies and philosophy
- the Master Teacher in providing an integrated curriculum that meets the developmental needs of individual children
- children in self-help and social skills
- in maintaining daily records with regards to attendance, health and nutrition
- in assessing children's needs and developmental progress on an ongoing basis and apply this assessment to plan activities
- in providing a climate of respect for each child's individual personality, physical characteristics and traits, culture, language and ethnic characteristics, family structure, developmental needs and behavior
- in mealtime and snack preparation including serving and cutting food into bite-size pieces for young children and help with cleanup
- Participate in ongoing professional development including coursework, regular staff meetings and parent meetings
- Act as a role model for students, parents and center visitors and assist in facilitating positive and productive relationships with families that support the development of children
- Utilize and promote positive guidance techniques
- Perform housekeeping tasks and maintain a safe, clean, orderly and attractive learning environment for children
- Maintain classroom supplies, materials and equipment
- Principles and practices of a child development center
- The principles of child development
- Appropriate activities for children of various ages and skill levels, especially for preschool, infant and toddler age
- Work effectively as a team member
- Meet schedules and timelines
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Maintain documentation and records
- Handle multiple assignments simultaneously and set priorities based on customer needs
- Recognize each child as an individual with specific needs
- Work with children and families from diverse backgrounds
- Care for children six weeks through five years of age
- Possess positive interaction skills in communicating with children and families with diverse backgrounds
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Child Development Permit at the Associate Teacher level or higher (*attach permit); AND
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

- Completion of a supervised field experience course
- CPR, AED and First Aid Certificates for Infants, Children and Adults
Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard classroom setting.
Physical: Primary function requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist; to lift carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movements and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Must have an ability to bend, stoop, reach and lift/move up to 40 pounds
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
