Communications Coordinator
Position Summary
The Communications Coordinator supports the district’s communication efforts by working closely with the Chief Communications Officer, communications team members, and other departments. This role helps carry out communication plans aligned with district priorities and ensures information shared with families, staff, and the community is accurate, timely, and consistent. The coordinator collaborates on a variety of projects to support both day-to-day and long-term communications goals.
Essential Duties
Assist in developing and carrying out communication plans that reflect district initiatives and priorities
Work alongside communications team members to support content creation and project coordination
Support media relations by helping prepare news releases, coordinating media coverage, and maintaining media contact lists
Assist with responding to media inquiries, drafting messaging, and preparing press kits
Help coordinate updates during incidents or emergencies as directed by the Chief Communications Officer
Draft and edit content for the website, social media, newsletters, and other platforms
Contribute to social media planning, scheduling, and monitoring engagement
Collaborate with departments and school sites to gather and share stories that reflect the district’s mission and values
Assist with photography, videography, and graphic content for internal and external communications
Help support public records responses in accordance with district policies
Provide communication assistance for events, staff recognitions, and special projects
Assist in professional learning efforts by preparing materials or supporting presentations related to effective communication practices
Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the Communications Office
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field
At least 3 years of relevant experience
Strong writing and editing skills, including familiarity with AP Style
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Understanding of public engagement and effective communication practices
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in K-12 or public education environments
Familiarity with FERPA and other relevant school communication guidelines
Experience working collaboratively on communications or media teams
Skills in photography, video editing, or graphic design software

Physical requirements include the ability to sit, speak, hear, and use hands regularly; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds; and the ability to adjust visual focus as needed

Reports To: Chief Communications Officer
Contract: 260 Days
Salary Schedule: Support Off Scale – based on experience
FLSA Classification: Exempt
