The health center CMA assists the providers and other clinical staff in the delivery of health care services both for primary care and behavioral health. Takes vital signs, assists in a variety of treatments, administers medications, monitors usage, and updates patient records. Uses communication skills to discuss medical related issues and questions with patients and families, makes referrals and follows up on referrals to other care providers. Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments, ensuring cleanliness and sterilization processes have been accomplished. Screens telephone calls for referral to physicians, takes phone messages as related to medical questions, and relays messages concerning prescriptions to physician. Performs all diagnostic testing and proficiency testing on equipment and diagnostic materials. Keeps accurate records of testing performed and/or sent to other laboratories. Maintains information on patient’s electronic medical record chart. Advises and assists support personnel in scheduling of tests and treatments. Must be able to accurately and timely complete FMLA/WC forms. This position will also be a backup to front office and handle patient intake, phone calls, registration duties when needed.
Education, License, or any special requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited CMA program.
- Current CMA certification.
- Current CPR certification.
- Good working knowledge of the nursing process and strong nursing practice skills including physical assessment skills.
- Clinical experience preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
