Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit is growing! A well-established and leading law firm located in Illinois is seeking a part-time Law Clerk in our Chicago office. This busy, non-exempt position requires diplomatic people skills and is ideal for a 2L or 3L attending law school who needs part-time work, approximately 25 hours per week.
The starting hourly rate for this role is $23.00 per hour, dependent on experience. This position is fully in-office and does not offer a hybrid work option. The work schedule will be confirmed with the Human Resources Manager and/or department manager at the time of hire. This position plays a vital role by providing coverage for the Front Desk Clerk when they are out of the office.

Responsibilities:
· Support attorney inquiries and provide legal research/memos as requested meeting all deadlines.
· File pleadings in Cook County and Federal Courts, as well as tax appeals.
· Set up Motions.
· Record documents at recorder’s office (e.g., deeds, amendments, declarations, etc.).
· Obtain copies of documents from city, county, state, and federal departments.
· Deliver courtesy copies to judges and deliver documents to attorneys in court.
· Bill time and expenses daily, as needed.
· Perform various searches as requested (e.g., property tax, social security number, license plate, Pacer bankruptcy, active military search, etc.) and note updated status in applicable firm systems.
· Provide back-up to Front Desk Clerk during absences to ensure court filings/retrievals are timely completed and forwarded to appropriate recipient(s).
· Scan and profile foreclosure notices and emails to document management system.
· Perform legal research as needed.
· Forward documents interoffice via messenger as needed.
· Any other general duties as necessary or required.
Requirements
Qualifications:
· Currently attending law school – 2L or 3L.
· Completed Legal Writing Course.
· 4 Year Undergraduate Degree.
· Clerking (filing) experience with a law office, preferred.
Competencies:
· Must have a high comfort level with Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to learn specialized software.
· Possess strong organizational skills and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Works independently and takes initiatives to accomplish tasks.
· Strong research and writing skills and a familiarity with Lexis or Westlaw.
· Ability to multi-task with focused attention to detail and proofreading.
