About the Department
Under general direction, coordinates the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the Solano Treatment Courts Peer Mentor and Alumni (PMA) program. Oversees and administers the day-to-day operations of the PMA program. Develops and manages peer-led support structures that assist participants in sustaining recovery and wellness, including alumni communities and mentor programs for treatment court programs. Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer peer mentors. Cultivates and facilitates alumni groups for each court. Maintains general records and lists of interested alumni who may qualify to be peer mentors. Provides coordination and guidance to volunteer mentors, mentees, court staff, and community partners. This single-position classification is grant-funded full-time and is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position is not represented.
Position Duties
- Planning, implementing, administering, and monitoring the day-to-day activities for the peer mentor and alumni program.
- Designing and building alumni communities of court participants and graduates.
- Facilitating alumni communications via electronic, verbal, and written channels.
- Recruiting and training alumni to serve as peer mentors, providing them with support and development opportunities.
- Integrating alumni mentors into the recovery support structure of the Solano Treatment Courts.
- Tracking mentor/mentee relationships to ensure effective communication and addressing any issues that may arise.
- Collecting and maintaining records of peer mentorship activities, including participation rates, program effectiveness, and mentor/mentee feedback.
- Organizing regular meetings for peer mentors and court staff to discuss program progress and challenges.
- Planning and facilitating alumni events to develop continued engagement and peer support between Solano Treatment Court graduates.
- Assisting in the preparation of grant reports and other documentation to support sustainability and program expansion.
- Developing partnerships with community organizations to support mentors and mentees in accessing services such as employment, housing, and continued recovery programs.
- Working closely with court staff to ensure effective operation of the Peer Mentor Alumni Program.
- Promoting the peer mentor program through community presentations, event tabling, and other outreach efforts.
- Serving on the Solano Treatment Court Team.
- Attending and participating in conferences, meetings, and committees as the Specialty Court Peer Mentor Alumni Coordinator.
- Facilitating the planning process to develop program eligibility standards, operating policies, and procedures.
- Developing necessary forms, including memoranda of understanding and contracts of services.
- Creating interagency links to address clients’ ancillary needs in areas of culture, age, gender, medical and mental health provisions.
- Communicating effectively orally and in writing.
- Exercising a high degree of judgment, tact, diplomacy, and competence in dealing with judges, attorneys, court personnel, treatment providers, law enforcement, community resources, and the public.
- Acting as a representative on various committees associated with mental health, drug courts, chemical dependency, and treatment issues.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – The successful applicant will possess the following (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
- Recovery and treatment models for mental health and substance use disorders;
- Peer support and peer mentoring principles and best practices;
- Community resources available for recovery support, employment, housing, and other needs.
- Court practices;
- Program coordination and volunteer recruitment and management;
- Habits and actions of people with mental health and substance use disorder diagnoses;
- Programs and resources available for mental health, substance abuse, and related issues;
- Report writing skills; and
- Basic functions of Outlook, Word, and Excel or similar software.
Ability to:
- Develop and maintain a peer mentor support program;
- Make decisions and independent judgments;
- Demonstrate tact and diplomacy;
- Collect and analyze data to establish/identify needs, evaluate program effectiveness and/or draw logical conclusions and make appropriate recommendations;
- Organize and prioritize work assignments;
- Use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation;
- Train program participants in mentorship and facilitate other appropriate training opportunities;
- Communicate effectively with people of diverse socio-economic backgrounds and temperaments;
- Meet deadlines;
- Use excellent oral and written communication skills;

Educational and Work Experience Requirements
Any combination of education and experience that could provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college
- Two years of experience in volunteer coordination, mentorship management, or social services.
- One year of supervisory experience with volunteers or paid staff
Special Requirements:
- Must be willing to work with and around program participants with behavioral health disorders.
- Must be willing to work outside regular business hours, as needed.
- Must be willing to travel, as needed.
License Requirements
- A valid California driver’s license is required or the ability to provide alternative transportation if prohibited by a medically documented disability from obtaining a driver’s license.
