Position Details
This position will support both the Mary E. Walsh Center for Thriving Children (CTC) and Center for the Study of Testing, Evaluation and Educational Policy (CSTEEP) within the Lynch School of Education and Human Development. This is a 20 hour per week benefits eligible position.
The Mary E. Walsh Center for Thriving Children at Boston College studies the most effective ways to address the out-of-school factors impacting student learning and thriving, especially in high-poverty urban schools. It’s flagship the City Connects initiative, provides on-the-ground support to schools serving disadvantaged students. The support includes (i) provision of various non-educational services that enhance the capacity of students to learn, and (ii) assisting classroom teachers in identifying student needs and tracking student progress through the school year. Implemented in over 90 schools across six states (and internationally in Ireland), City Connects engages districts, schools, and partnering community agencies to connect every student to a tailored set of supports and enrichments in the school and community.
CSTEEP conducts research on technical aspects of education policy, analysis of large-scale education data bases, technology-supported teacher professional development and 1:1 computing interventions. It is a University–supported research center internationally recognized for its work in the policy uses of tests and is a rich resource in educational reform, teacher professional development, and the impact of educational technology.
Position Description
The Staff Assistant will work with two Administrators (fiscal and regular), the Director of CSTEEP, and senior administrative/research staff associated with the City Connects initiative in support of the administrative activities associated with the two centers. S/he will also interact with faculty, staff and visitors. Responsibilities include:
- Assist Fiscal Administrator in processing expenses/vouchers and related tasks
- Maintain grant, non-grant and general filing systems
- Assist Administrators in events/meetings logistics and preparation of materials
- Keep inventory and order supplies for both Centers
- Submit work-order requests
- Mail (incoming and outgoing) mail merges and FedEx
- Answer telephones, greet visitors and general office duties
- Maintain printers/copiers/shredding bins/fax machines (toners, kits, paper, fix jams, schedule repairs) in multiple offices
- Maintain/update numerous databases
- Support induction of new hires
- Photocopying, scanning, printing, editing, data-entry
- Support audit process
- Assist with special events
Position: 00013436 - Staff Assistant (part time temporary with benefits)
Hiring Range: $21.48/hr to $26.84/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- 1-3 years increasingly responsible administrative experience (in higher education setting is preferred)
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Docs/applications, Excel, Power Point)
- Superior customer service orientation and focus and the ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team environment
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with Boston College systems, such as PeopleSoft, preferred
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills
- Ability to maintain data security and confidentiality of all data at all times
