Description: CRG is seeking a full-time Writer, Editor, and Engagement Officer to serve as the primary writer and editor in support of a new DOD client at Ft. Detrick, MD. This role blends strong journalistic, writing, interviewing skills, and editing capabilities with the ability to capture an executive voice, distill complex topics into clear and engaging messages, and developing content appropriate for diverse audiences and events.
Duties and Tasks:
- Work independently to create content, working closely with experts throughout the command. This level of autonomy requires an experienced writer who has familiarity of the science and/or medical industry, as well as DoD.
- Interview subject matter experts on complex issues, and write plain-language newsletter articles that are ready for publishing.
- Gather information from a variety of sources and draft press releases, video scripts, informational products, and social media posts among others.
- Edit a variety of written material, including internal and external command publications, to ensure they are completely free of errors.
- Write and edit in Associated Press (AP) style.
- Write and edit for web style with an understanding of operational security requirements.
- Assist and support with events, VIP Visits, and other MRDC Command engagements as needed.
- Assist with developing content for annual Social Media campaigns.
- Assist with additional visit duties to include lunches/coffee, name tags, take away packets, etc.
- Collaborate and support the Command Information, Public Affairs, Protocol and Engagements Manager as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Marketing, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in government public affairs and communication.
- Demonstrated journalistic writing and editing skills.
- Effective organizational and communication skills as well as excellent writing and editing skills.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, familiarity with event management tools a plus.
- Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and virtual environment both independently and as a team.
Preferred but not required:
- Master’s degree in communication or marketing.
- Experience supporting Military Health System or the U.S. Army.
- Experience in event planning, protocol, or senior-level engagement management.
- DINFOS trained.
