This role will be actively involved in financial reporting preparation and the financial consolidation process to ensure the monthly corporate level deliverables are accurate and delivered timely. He/she will be responsible for the periodic external financial reports with disclosures and will manage various complex accounting processes.
Areas of Responsibility:
Monthly financial reporting process
- Directs the Corporate Accounting team’s work efforts on financial support schedules, system inputs, and reporting for the consolidation.
- Contributes to the integrity review process completed by the team for the consolidated financial reporting and manages various tracking documents/workpapers.
- Manages the cash flow statement eliminations process and the OS workflow process for consolidation reporting.
- Ensures delivery of consolidated financial reporting to specific associates and executives in a professional and timely manner.
- Responsible for the document retention of consolidated financial reports and monthly workpapers for the consolidation work effort.
- Leads process improvement initiative to identify and eliminate waste leading to improvement in days to close.
Quarterly and annual financial reporting and required disclosures
- Directs the Corporate Accounting team’s work efforts on the financial reporting, disclosure notes, support schedules, and required compliance documents.
- Identifies GAAP disclosure requirements and develops the reporting for.
- Ensures the department’s financial support schedules and documents meet the Company standards for completeness and accuracy.
- Works with internal and external auditors to complete the periodic reviews in a timely manner and represents the team in a professional manner.
Accounting processes & other
- Manages various accounting processes to include long term associate incentive plan, lease accounting, casualty insurance, health insurance, payroll accounting, long term debt tracking, intangibles/goodwill, property accounting, and hosted software.
- Coordinates accounting policy documentation and updates.
- Represents the department for application/system changes and updates.
- Month end review of NSC cost center P&L.
- Project work and ad-hoc analysis as needed.
Requirements and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of eight years of relevant experience.
- Experience working with complex accounting issues.
- Experience with financial statement preparation and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices (GAAP).
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate accounting issues with various departments.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel skills.
- Able to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
