Position Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to provide direct care to residents, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with facility policies and procedures and report resident needs and concerns to a licensed nurse. Provides guidance and direction to other CNAs, PCAs, and/or RAs on shift. As a Preceptor, the incumbent will facilitate the seamless integration of new staff into the facility.

Essential Job Functions – Principal Accountabilities:

  • Serves as an on-shift resource to other CNAs and staff by answering questions and providing suggestions on specific duties and tasks.
  • Provides for resident’s personal hygiene and daily living. This may include providing and clearing bedpans and urinals, providing baths, backrubs, shampoos and shaves, and assisting residents with showers. Assists with meals and feeds residents. Ambulates, turns and positions residents. Provides hydration and nourishment between meals. 
  • Checks vital signs and weight, specimen collection, and post-mortem care.
  • Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees. Maintains good working relations with nursing unit staff and other facility employees through appropriate communication.
  • Instills confidence in residents by maintaining a neat appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner. Reports observations of residents to the nurse caring for the patient to ensure professional assessment.
  • Maintains resident records daily in a timely manner and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment for the residents.
  • Provides guidance and support to new employees as they transition into their roles. Offers hands-on training and instruction in clinical practices and procedures; oversees the work of new employees, ensuring adherence to protocols and standards; serves as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, effective communication, and clinical competence; assesses the progress of new employees and provide constructive feedback; emphasizes safety protocols, preventing potential risks during resident care activities; shares practical insights to enhance the understanding and application of applicable skills; helps new employees assimilate into the organizational culture and values; acts as a resource for information, answering questions and providing clarification on policies and procedures; and collaborates with other healthcare professionals to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Assures resident safety through strict adherence to protocols, policies, and procedures, open communication with residents, supervisors, and coworkers, and careful observation of residents, equipment, and environmental conditions.

Other Job Functions

  • With specialized training and written approval, may perform additional and specialized tasks pertinent to the assigned area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED, or equivalent is required.  

Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience as a licensed professional CNA, with a minimum of six months of CNA experience at the facility.

Certification/License: Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in good standing is required. Candidates are required to attain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days after hire. State background check standards must be maintained as a condition of continued employment in accordance with Florida Statutes Chapters 435 and 408.809 and Florida Administrative Code 59A-35.090.

  • Stand, traverse, ascend/descend stairs, move/transport carts weighing over 100 pounds, transport tools/equipment, grasp and manipulate tools/equipment to set up. Occasionally move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Move resident as necessary, stretch, bend, stoop, squat, twist, crouch, kneel, and balance to access all resident body parts, observe skin color, detect vital signs and equipment alarms/messages.
  • Operate computer, read, remain in a stationary position, converse with others.
  • Legibly complete forms; perform data entry of information. Remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Converse with others, write legibly, read and comprehend written/verbal information. Communicate instructions or demonstrate tasks.
  • Lift and carry up to 35 pounds frequently; up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Stand and walk frequently, sit for extended periods; simple grasp; fine hand manipulation; near vision; far vision; hear conversation; speak.
