Summary
The Data Engineer will design, develop, and maintain the data pipelines, storage solutions, and integration processes that support the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s (BEP) Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) programs. This role will ensure that structured and unstructured data from multiple sources can be securely ingested, transformed, and made available for automation, analytics, and cognitive solutions. The Data Engineer will work closely with RPA developers, data scientists, cloud engineers, and security specialists to ensure BEP’s data infrastructure is secure, scalable, and compliant with federal standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load (ETL/ELT) data from multiple BEP systems into approved cloud and on-premises environments.
- Develop data integration solutions to support RPA and cognitive automation workflows, including AI/ML models, OCR/ICR, and chatbot solutions.
- Collaborate with business analysts and developers to define data requirements, schema designs, and data access rules.
- Ensure compliance with BEP security policies, NIST, FedRAMP, and FISMA requirements for all data storage and transfer processes.
- Optimize database and data processing performance to meet automation and analytics needs.
- Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and monitoring dashboards to ensure integrity and accuracy.
- Support cloud migrations and integration of data services in AWS GovCloud or Azure Government.
- Document data architectures, data dictionaries, and metadata to comply with BEP Enterprise Lifecycle (ELC) standards.
- Work with DevOps teams to automate data pipeline deployments and integrate with CI/CD workflows.
- Provide troubleshooting and support for data-related issues in production environments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3 years designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines or database solutions in a cloud or hybrid environment, preferably supporting automation or AI programs in the federal or commercial sector.
- Knowledge Areas: Data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, SQL/NoSQL databases, cloud data services, and federal data security compliance.
- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain clearance as required by BEP; must meet High Risk position requirements under HSPD-12.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS GovCloud or Azure Government data services (e.g., AWS RDS, S3, Redshift, Azure SQL Database, Data Lake).
- Familiarity with big data frameworks such as Apache Spark or Hadoop.
- Proficiency with data integration tools (e.g., Talend, Informatica, AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory).
- Exposure to RPA platforms (UiPath) and AI/ML data preparation workflows.
- Programming experience in Python, SQL, or Scala for data engineering tasks.
