Job Description:The Red Gate Group is seeking a Data Engineer to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Reston, VA. In this role, you will transform complex, data-rich environments into actionable intelligence that directly impacts national security. You’ll work closely with mission stakeholders to understand their needs, dig into diverse datasets, and design solutions that uncover insights and drive smarter decision-making.
As a Data Engineer, you’ll mentor teammates, apply advanced data science techniques, and leverage your expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computational methods to build scalable data solutions. By developing innovative algorithms and processes, you’ll help DTRA maximize the value of its information, mitigate risks, and enhance its analytic capabilities. Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with stakeholders to define data requirements and deliver analytic solutions that address mission needs.
Design and implement algorithms, models, and processes to extract, transform, and synthesize complex datasets.
Apply AI/ML techniques and statistical modeling to solve operational and intelligence challenges.
Evaluate algorithms and methodologies for risks, biases, and limitations to ensure analytic integrity.
Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of technical excellence.
Conduct exploratory data analysis and rapid iteration on large datasets to quickly derive intelligence insights.
Present findings and recommendations in clear, actionable formats for leadership decision-making.
5+ years of experience in computer science, data science, or computational engineering.
5+ years of experience with major scripting languages, including Python, Java, R, or C++.
5+ years of experience developing concepts in AI/ML, mathematical or statistical models, and data exploration.
5+ years of experience leveraging computer science and mathematics to develop methods for storing, transforming, modeling, and presenting information.
5+ years of experience developing algorithms and processes for intelligence applications.
Experience evaluating algorithms for risks, biases, and limitations.
Experience conducting exploratory analysis and rapid iteration of large datasets.
Active TS/SCI clearance.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Statistics.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with Big Data platforms such as Spark and Hadoop.
Experience integrating and analyzing data from disparate sources.
Experience with local compute clusters leveraging Dask.
Experience supporting intelligence production with large, multi-source datasets.
Knowledge of containerized deployment (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
Ability to quickly learn new programming languages.
Master’s degree in a related field.
