Major/Essential Functions
- Submits specimens for histologic examination after gross dissection.
- Must be familiar with anatomy and histology requirements such as specimen thickness and length of adequate fixation.
- Performs related procedures including obtaining cultures, taking photographs, and saving tissue.
- Ensures proper labeling and storing of all specimens.
- Performs autopsies including expternal examinations, on-site organ inspections, evisceration or removal of internal organs, and dissection of organs, tissue, and records data on findings.
- Maintain procedures and protocols according to UMC/TTUHSC policies.
- Assists pathologists with preparation of clinical summary as requested
- Remains current with all licensures, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.
- Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policy/procedures and processes. Personally demonstrate, display, and act in accordance with TTUHSCEPs values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork.
- Actively promote and encourage staff across the institution.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
- Intermediate or Advanced skill level in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge in the use of Banner/Cognos systems, such as EOPs, Travel and Current Leave Balances, and QGenda.
- Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to speak effectively before groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
- Working knowledge of medical and scientific terminology.
- Perform functions of job under pressure of deadlines. Knowledge of office practices and procedures

- Certification as Pathology Assistant from NAACLS accredited training program will substitute for 2 years experience
