PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Engineering Manager leads the plant’s Engineering function while actively contributing to project execution, problem-solving, and floor-level operations. This role drives cost improvements, process optimization, and equipment initiatives while supporting Quality and Maintenance functions. Projects will be primarily in the manufacturing facility but may occur in other areas of the company as needed.
REPORTS TO: Plant Manager
DIRECT SUPERVISION: Engineer(s), Engineering Intern(s)/Co-Op(s), and Engineering Technician(s)
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Develop and evaluate manufacturing methods to maximize plant capabilities, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Analyze workflow, space utilization, and staffing to design and implement optimal equipment and workspace layouts.
- Partner with maintenance, production, and quality teams to ensure product design, tooling, and facility layout enable efficient and safe production.
- Coordinate requirements for new equipment, oversee installation, and ensure contract specifications are met through testing and validation.
- May act as project manager during all or in select areas of the project.
- Research, justify, and implement projects related to new products, process improvements, or facility enhancements.
- Use defined project methodologies to plan scope, costs, timelines, resources, and deliverables.
- Prepare detailed proposals and justifications considering operational, financial, and strategic objectives.
- Leverage internal and external resources to execute projects effectively.
- Provide direction and guidance to Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance teams.
- Foster collaboration across functions to solve problems quickly and sustainably.
- Mentor and develop staff, encouraging ownership and accountability.
- Promote a safe, clean, and organized work environment, reinforcing safety policies and protective equipment requirements.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Must have 5 to 7 years of manufacturing experience in an engineering or related technical role.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- Proven Leadership experience (formal management not required)
- Willing to be “hands-on” and build strong rapport with production and maintenance associates.
- Ability to operate in a flat organizational structure with shared accountabilities and responsibilities.
- Self-starting with the ability to work autonomously as an individual contributor or as part of a team.
- Must have strong project management, analytical, and communication (written & verbal) skills.
- Solutions-oriented with the ability to see past project obstacles.
- Must be proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and be familiar with AutoCAD.
- Must be detail-oriented and process-oriented, capable of multitasking, and a team player.
- Applies a strong sense of ownership to the role.
- Willing to work various shift schedules to implement and/or complete projects.
