Job Summary:
The Endoscopy Scribe supports physicians and clinical staff by accurately documenting procedures, patient interactions, and findings in real-time during endoscopic procedures (e.g., colonoscopies, upper endoscopies). The scribe plays a critical role in improving provider efficiency, ensuring accurate medical records, and enhancing patient care documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accompany gastroenterologist(s) during endoscopic procedures to document:
- Procedure details
- Observations and findings (e.g., polyps, inflammation)
- Biopsy sites
- Interventions performed (e.g., polyp removal, dilation)
- Equipment used and medications administered
- Enter real-time data into the electronic medical record (EMR) system, including:
- Procedure reports
- Consent verification
- Time stamps (start/end time, medication administration, etc.)
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of procedure notes under physician direction
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times
- Assist in managing documentation workflow and preparation of post-procedure reports
- Collaborate with nurses and physicians to streamline documentation and improve turnaround time
- Ensure proper tagging and labeling of endoscopic images within the EMR system
- Maintain awareness of endoscopy terminology and medical abbreviations
Requirements
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent typing and data entry skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology, especially gastroenterology-related terms
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
Preferred:
- Previous experience as a medical or clinical scribe
- Associate’s degree or coursework in health sciences or medical assisting
- Familiarity with EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Provation)
