Kleinfelder is looking to add a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to our South Division. The position may be based in Kleinfelder's offices in:
- Raleigh, NC
- Greensboro, NC
- Charlotte, NC
The ideal candidate will:
- Be able to develop and scope proposals for geotechnical opportunities.
- Have a strong knowledge and understanding of geotechnical exploration techniques, including different testing and sampling methods.
- Direct junior staff to perform field activities during geotechnical explorations.
- Coordinate geotechnical tasks and manage budgets on medium to large size geotechnical projects.
- Review daily field reports and field logs from field staff during geotechnical explorations.
- Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and prepare geotechnical reports for both private and public projects.
- Review work of and mentor junior staff.
- Provide geotechnical consultation during construction of projects, as needed.
- Perform plan and specification review on projects where our geotechnical services were provided.
- Interrelate with external clients and subcontractors.
We are looking for someone with the ability to provide quality technical support on transportation, commercial, municipal, energy and water projects.
Strong analytical skills are required in areas including:
- Geotechnical engineering evaluations including:
- Earth retention systems,
- Shallow and deep foundation,
- Mass earthwork/site development,
- Pavement support/section design,
- Ground improvement techniques.
- Experience with drilling oversight and soil and rock classification,
- Experience with construction oversight
- Subgrade observations, observation of backfill and compaction, deep foundation installation, etc.
- Experience in providing geotechnical explorations and analysis for HDD (Horizontal Directional Drills) is a plus, but not required.
Education & Experience:
- 8 to 15 years of related experience.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
- Must have a positive work attitude and ability to work safely and efficiently when managing multiple tasks and junior staff
- Ability to work independently or with a team in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to travel, if needed, and perform field work, even under inclement weather and physically demanding conditions.
- Position will require the candidate to adhere to work assignments/schedules, be self-motivated, organized and have a keen sense of detail.
- Candidate must be willing to work in addition to a standard 40-hour work week, if needed.
