Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for numbers and supporting a diverse community? Join our team at Renton Technical College as an Accounting Manager! The Accounting Manager monitors and manages the College’s accounting transactions, to ensure accuracy and compliance with WA State and Federal guidelines. In additon, this position will have supervisory responsibility for members of the accounting team.

This is a full-time and exempt position reporting to the Director of Finance and Budgeting. The salary range for this position is $92,000 - $98,000 annually. The priority consideration date for this position is September 5, 2025.

Position Duties

  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and creating an educational environment that affirms a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. 
  • Manage accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Washington State Auditor’s Office (SAO), Office of Financial Management (OFM), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC), and college policies.
  • Install and maintain internal controls to meet federal, state, and institutional standards.
  • Ensure compliance with audit requirements and coordinate with the Director of Finance and Budgeting during audit processes.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate accounting staff, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
  • Assign and monitor work to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to policies.
  • Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including transaction recording, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Review and approve journal entries and refund requests for accuracy and compliance.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and perform recurring and ad hoc entries as needed.
  • Review monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Maintain internal cash control procedures and conduct periodic cash audits.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of financial aid revenue and expenditures with the Financial Aid Office.
  • Manage monthly, annual, and biennial closing processes for assigned areas.
  • Review college financial statements and ensure accuracy of accounting data.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Finance and Budgeting to prepare and analyze financial reports for decision-making.
  • Oversee the retention and organization of financial records and source documentation.
  • Communicate accounting procedures and updates clearly to college departments.
  • Collaborate with Business Office staff to maintain and update the department’s SharePoint site.
  • Maintain professional and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively and collaboratively in inclusive teams serving individuals from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or equivalent education, and two years of accounting experience (one year with lead/project management responsibility) OR an Associate's degree with an emphasis in business administration or accounting and four years of accounting experience (one year with lead/project management responsibility)
  • Two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically, and exercise independent judgment required. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, specifically experience in creating & editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Previous success learning new computer software programs/platforms required.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 months of hire) the production of accessible content, whether print or electronic.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Successful experience using tact, discretion and courtesy while interacting with all persons. 
  • Demonstrates attention to detail required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working hours are generally aligned to business hours, Monday – Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
