Provide targeted science instruction and intervention to students who are performing below grade level or are at risk of failing science courses and state assessments. Collaborate with campus staff to design and deliver engaging, data-driven lessons that support mastery of scientific concepts, improve academic performance, and build student confidence in science.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education or related science field - Valid Texas teaching certificate in Science (Composite Science 7–12, Biology 7–12, Chemistry 7–12, Physics/Math 7–12, or other appropriate certification)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong knowledge of high school science content, including TEKS standards - Ability to analyze and interpret student assessment data to guide instruction - Proficiency in instructional strategies for diverse learners, including at-risk, SPED, and ESL students - Effective classroom management and student engagement techniques - Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills - Ability to integrate technology into instruction
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of successful secondary science teaching experience preferred - Experience providing academic intervention or working with at-risk student populations preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Support
- Provide targeted small-group and one-on-one science instruction focused on mastery of core concepts and skills. - Deliver supplemental lessons aligned with TEKS, district curriculum, and STAAR/EOC readiness standards. - Use a variety of instructional strategies, resources, and technologies to meet diverse learning needs. - Modify and adapt instruction for students receiving special education or ESL services. - Incorporate hands-on activities, lab investigations, and real-world applications to enhance learning.
Data-Driven Intervention
- Analyze campus assessment data, benchmarks, and teacher input to identify students in need of science intervention. - Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments, adjusting instruction accordingly. - Maintain accurate documentation of intervention plans, progress monitoring, and student outcomes.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with science department staff, instructional coaches, and administrators to develop intervention schedules and instructional plans. - Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies for support at home. - Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to align intervention efforts with core instruction.
Campus & District Support
- Assist in preparing students for STAAR/EOC science assessments through targeted review sessions and tutoring. - Support science teachers in differentiating instruction for struggling learners. - Contribute to campus improvement goals and initiatives related to science achievement.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: - Maintain emotional control under stress. - Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of instructional materials. - Possible exposure to lab chemicals and science equipment (with appropriate safety measures).
*Salary is commensurate with experience *Minimum Salary $66,000 * This position requires on-site, in-person work and does not offer remote work options.
