REPORTS TO: Building Principal
LOCATION: Brighton High School Brighton Area Schools is seeking a long-term substitute to provide continuous and ongoing education which ensures the best possible mental, physical, emotional and social development of all students.
Qualifications: 1. Educational: a. Preferred - Michigan Teaching Certificate with English Endorsement b. Minimum - Official transcripts with a total of 60 credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA from a regionally accredited college or university, temporary teaching authorization or current Michigan Teaching Certificate. 2. Personal: a. Ability to work cooperatively with administration, teaching staff, and students in the ongoing task of providing the best possible education for all students. b. Willingness to accept constructive criticism. c. Ability to function under stress. d. Willingness to adapt to changing situations.
Major Responsibilities: 1. Planning and Preparation 2. Instruction and Grading 3. Student Control and Discipline 4. Other duties as assigned
Illustration of Key Duties: 1. Planning and preparation: following daily lesson presentations and plans. 2. Instruction: to utilize classroom instruction techniques designed to stimulate the spirit of inquiry, the acquisition of knowledge and understanding, and the thoughtful formulation of worthy goals. To develop a classroom atmosphere which shall not, without just cause, restrain the student from independent action in his pursuit of learning and shall not deny, without just cause, student access to varying points of view. To provide a classroom learning situation which abides by the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession, the adopted policies of the Board of Education and the individual philosophy of the building where assigned. 3. Student Control and Discipline: to cooperate with the building level and central administration in the endorsement of general rules of order with the individual classroom. To be responsible for the order, attention and deportment of pupils. In case of extreme difficulty, to report to the principal, or his designee, giving a detailed statement of the facts of the case. To aid in the maintenance of general building control by assisting in hallway or playground supervision.
