Key Responsibilities
- Implement and enforce Health & Safety regulations, including carrying out risk assessments and incident reporting.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of assembly line workers (direct and sub-contractor) to meet daily and weekly production targets.
- Ensure that assembled products meet quality standards and specifications.
- Monitor inventory levels of parts and materials, and liaise with procurement or stores to ensure adequate supply.
- Train new staff and conduct regular refresher training for existing team members.
- Work with engineering and quality control teams to resolve any production or technical issues.
- Monitor and report on performance metrics such as output, efficiency, downtime, and rework rates.
- Lead daily briefings and participate in continuous improvement (e.g. 5S, Lean, Kaizen) initiatives.
- Maintain accurate production and personnel records.
- Provide feedback to staff and support performance appraisals and development plans.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (minimum).
- Proven experience in a similar supervisory or team leader role within an assembly/manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of assembly processes and equipment.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Competent in using production management systems and Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
- NVQ Level 3 in Manufacturing/Engineering or equivalent is desirable.
- First Aid and Health & Safety certifications (e.g. IOSH) are a plus.
