Summary:
A scout’s primary function is to identify and evaluate talent while providing prospect information to prepare management in draft, free agency, and trade discussions/decisions. Scouts for the Milwaukee Bucks are required to attend sanctioned basketball events, study film and statistics, network with other basketball professionals, and document information in a timely manner into our scouting database. This position requires working unique hours/days/holidays, and regular travel both in and during the off-season. Participation in Bucks scouting meetings both virtually and in-market which are organized throughout the year and at a pre-planned frequency.
The ideal candidate emphasizes deadlines, is a self-starter, thinks efficiently/critically, handles sensitive information with confidentiality, is proactive, and possesses strong communication/writing skills.
Responsibilities:
- Meet deadlines, performance goals and benchmarks as discussed with the VP of Global Scouting
- Contribute to prospect lists and player rankings on a regular basis for all levels of basketball with a primary focus on grassroots talent identification
- Participate in multiple scouting meetings/conversations throughout the season (in-market/virtually)
- Travel to attend basketball events with a pre-provided schedule and at times be willing and available to adjust quickly based upon the needs of the business
- Extensive writing of scouting reports and background information on identified talent
- Network with local, national and international scouts throughout the NBA basketball network
- Document and submit reports into the teams scouting database in a timely manner
- Summarize and condense sensitive information for management to use in roster and day-to-day decisions
- Research and evaluate prospects both on and off the floor
- Identify, evaluate & track prospects at various levels of global basketball (professional, amateur, grassroots)
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of basketball experience required at a college or professional level
- Extensive grassroots working background and professional connections required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Broad and diverse global network of basketball contacts preferred
- Basketball analysis, coaching or playing experience preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and tech savvy preferred
