PURPOSE STATEMENT: Substitute Teachers/ Emergency Substitutes are on an on-call/substitute basis, this position will perform related duties of a teacher to provide continuity in the day-to-day responsibilities during the absence of the regular teacher.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage classroom and provide instruction according to lesson plans as prepared by the classroom teacher.
Provide classroom environment which promotes active learning.
Assist the teacher with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc.
Work with students to help reinforce learning objectives.
Adhere to all Coupeville Schools board policies and procedures.
Use appropriate judgment to act in the best interest of students at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Observe and utilize reasonable and professional medical/safety precautions to include positioning children in a safe and secure manner
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
A valid and appropriate Washington State teaching certificate;
current immunizations;
a demonstrated ability to communicate and work well with others;
a helpful, calm, friendly, and polite manner when interacting with students, parents and school staff;
the ability to work independently and cooperatively;
the ability to make reasoned decisions;
appropriate discretion concerning students, staff, and confidential or privileged information.

Pass a Washington State Patrol & FBI fingerprint background check. (Estimated fee is $80, applicant paid)

Social Security Card
Working Conditions:
Works in a classroom, frequently moving, standing, crouching, kneeling, squatting to interact with students.
Moves within the school and occasionally between school locations.
Uses a computer for multiple functions, and a telephone and/or email to communicate.
Bends, twists, and lifts up to 20 pounds when accessing records and office supplies.
May be required to lift or support or restrain students.
Uses fingers, hands, arms, facial expressions, and vocalization when working with students.
Occasionally exposed to high decibel alarm systems during drills or an actual emergency.

You must have cleared fingerprint results from the Washington State Patrol and the FBI before working with students. The quickest results are received with the electronic fingerprinting available at the ESD189in Anacortes. The cost of fingerprinting is $80.00 (estimate). Fingerprint results are valid for two years at any public school in the State of Washington.
