Due to internal promotion within the research team, Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust is looking for a highly motivated Band 5 registered nurse to join our research team. This is a full time position, worked over a Monday to Friday pattern. Occasional weekends and public holidays may be required with notice.
The successful candidate will work across 2 locations: the research department at Queen Alexandra Hospital & Portsmouth Research Hub, a new, exciting venture in the heart of Portsmouth City Centre. The research hub is currently delivering urgent public health studies from the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Portfolio. You will join an experienced, supportive team in working across a range of studies which may include commercial and non-commercial, interventional and observational research.
Working as part of a team you will be responsible for offering research opportunities to suitable patients, providing direct care throughout our participants’ research journey,
You will be involved in all aspects of trial delivery, from set up to completion. This will include pre-screening and screening participants, supporting informed consent conversations and trial follow up, ultimately ensuring the smooth running of studies and providing continuous support for our trial volunteers.
In return, we will be able to facilitate and support you with additional training and education relevant to the role, study-specific training, as well as the opportunity to gain experience from other research teams within Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, and other research partners.

Clinical/Professional
- Promote and set high standards of nursing care and maintain the delivery of quality care within the trust policies, protocols, and guidelines
- Provide and deliver a high standard of evidence-based nursing care, following the guidance of relevant clinical trial protocols
- Recognise and respond to a change in patient status undertaking first line interventions within scope of practice and refer on to the appropriate clinician as required
- Actively promote safe and effective working practices to prevent harm to the patients within your care and maintain high quality standards
- Communicating and working with the multidisciplinary team to improve quality of care.

- Current RN registration with NMC, with minimum of 2 years post-registration experience.
- BSc Degree in relevant field

Due to the cross-site location of this role, a driving licence & own transport to move between sites will be advantageous, although not essential.
