The Commercial HVAC Specialist is responsible for supporting sales growth within their assigned market by working as part of the overall sales team. This role is dedicated to managing commercial customers and projects assigned within their market, ensuring a high level of customer engagement and service. The associate will leverage Johnstone Supply’s value proposition of providing technical solutions and excellent customer support in the HVAC/R industry.

What will you be doing as a Commercial HVAC Specialist: 

  • Assist sales counter with customer transactions, product recommendations, order fulfillment, and identify potential commercial prospects. 
  • Work closely with Sales Operations Manager and Technical Services Associate (TSA) to develop and maintain relationships with commercial contractors, engineers, and project managers.  
  • Work with engineers and project managers on specifications and drafting layouts for engineer review; official design specs will be finalized by engineer (representative) of customer.
  • Travel throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders or talks with customers from their offices or by phone.
  • Spends time in the field, walking commercial job sites alongside the local TSA to gain understanding of customer needs, project requirements, and technical applications.  
  • Identifies and addresses issues and risks on project.
  • Project manager for day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope.
  • Facilitates workflows between departments while holding stakeholder accountable for their responsibilities to deliver a quality and on-time product solution. 
  • Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained.
  • Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of manufacturer production and distributor delivery schedules. 
  • Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with purchasing contacts. 
  • Requests and maintains special quotes from vendors (IPAs) ensuring the best costs for equipment. Information is compiled for purchasing.
  • Provides customer product and service needs by performing such tasks as finding products using computer, catalog, telephone or other reference sources.  
  • Investigates and resolves customer problems with deliveries, orders, defective parts, etc. 
  • Ensures desired level of profitability is obtained by:   Consistently following the pricing structure established for the store; achieving sales targets; and following the sales process from start to finish in a desired manner.
  • Maintains knowledge of current product lines and HVAC/R fundamentals and product lines.
  • Perform other Commercial Sales tasks and projects as assigned.  

What we are looking for in a Commercial HVAC Specialist

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Business, Marketing, or Economics ideal for this position).
  • 7-9 years of HVAC/R experience with functional knowledge of parts and terminology required; familiarity of HVAC systems in commercial marketplace, preferred. 
  • Project management/project planning experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) required with aptitude to learn new computer applications.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service with a deep desire to understand the business needs of customers.
  • Polished and professional demeanor in person, online and via phone.
  • Detail and solutions oriented, proactive, and driven to execute high quality work on time.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on various projects simultaneously keeping them on track and providing clear status updates.
  • Individual must be data-driven and possess research, analysis and evaluation skills.
  • Effective team player, ability to lead, demonstrates confidentiality, and take initiative.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.  
  • In-depth understanding of corporate and business unit technical and commercial strengths and relationships of Company products and services to the markets.
  • Ability to create a learning organization.
  • PC proficiency
