About the Department

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full-time, 12-month position

PRIMARY DUTY: The University Police Dispatcher primarily oversees emergency communication with offices and the campus community and supervises student employees while resolving matters for walk-in customers.

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Serves as a communication liaison between field staff, outside agencies, and communication centers

2. Prepares detailed comments from general instructions

3. Receives and transmits routine and emergency telephone, pedestrian, and radio traffic

4. Dispatches and coordinates police, fire, medical, and animal control

5. Maintains and processes a variety of communications verbal, written, and electronic

6. Handles multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

7. Schedules and manages student employees

8. Performs general clerical duties including typing, filing, record keeping, budgeting, maintenance of files, and receive, screen, and transfer calls

9. Attends and successfully completes all trainings and certification processes

10. Works independently

11. Conducts student staff meetings

12. Develops, facilitates, and leads training and continuing education

13. Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: Two years of experience working in a customer service field

Skills: Computer literacy; human relations; organizational, ability to multi-task

Other Qualifications

WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a 24-hour working environment with three shifts. Flexibility with the work schedule is required. This position will work indoors during inclement weather and may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Must reside within Nodaway County.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student employees

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Microsoft Office products; Google products; parking management software, computer-aided dispatch software, Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System, recording software, audio visual software, computerized alarms and emergency alert equipment. This position must purchase and maintain a cellular device and service that will be used for work functions. This position must be responsible for plan choices, calling areas, service features, terminations clauses, and paying for all charges associated with the cellular device and service.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift 25lbs. Able to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to workdays, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
