The Benefits Specialist is responsible for assisting in the administration of all employee benefits programs, including health, insurance, dental and vision insurance, health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, and retirement plans. This position determines benefit eligibility, distributes enrollment materials, and processes terminations as needed. The Benefits Specialist will serve as a liaison between employees, benefit providers, and Wabash General Hospital to ensure a seamless benefits experience.
In addition to benefits responsibilities, the Benefits Specialist serves as the backup to the Payroll Clerk, supporting payroll processing on a quarterly basis and during absences.
Essential Functions
- Administer and manage all employee benefit programs ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Determine employee benefit eligibility; distribute enrollment and termination materials.
- Act as the primary contact between employees and benefit providers to resolve issues and inquiries.
- Input benefit data into payroll systems and prepare check requests for benefit-related deductions.
- Process payroll quarterly and in the absence of the Payroll Clerk.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date employee benefit files.
- Maintain and update benefit-related policies and procedures.
- Complete annual Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliance filings.
- Provide support for administrative tasks and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor/s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in benefits administration or HR
- Experience with HRIS systems and benefits platforms
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with employees and external providers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
