General Summary of Duties:
As a Radiology Assistant, you will assist technologists, nurses, and radiologists with daily duties to ensure quality patient care and a smooth IR procedure workflow. This includes building strong interpersonal relationships with all staff members, patients, and radiologists. (Please note: The assistant will not perform imaging procedures directly.)

Essential Functions:

  • Greet patients and provide instructions regarding procedures.

  • Prepare patients appropriately for their exams.

  • Set up and turnover IR rooms and exams, ensuring an efficient continuous workflow.

  • Screen patients for safety, medical history, labs, and prep requirements prior to procedures, and communicate information to technologists and radiologists.

  • Maintain exam rooms with necessary supplies and assist in ordering and receiving processes.

  • Assist with managing crash cart supplies and ensuring medications are up to date.

  • Clean exam rooms after each procedure and prepare them for subsequent procedures.

  • Provide post-procedure care to patients and address any concerns or needs professionally.

  • Answer incoming site calls, assist accordingly, and follow up with patients as needed.

  • Assist radiologists and technologists during procedures across multiple modalities.

  • Support administrative tasks and assist in other departments when not required in tech areas.

  • Perform venipuncture as required.

  • Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Center Manager/Director, which may vary by department and imaging center.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • Previous healthcare experience or education is preferred. Radiology experience is a plus.

Certifications and Licensure:

  • BLS certification required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of procedures and protocols for imaging exams.

  • Basic understanding of anatomy and physiology.

  • Familiarity with safety hazards related to radiology.

  • Understanding of Universal Precautions and troubleshooting of ancillary equipment.

  • Ability to perform venipuncture.

  • Ability to work cooperatively within and outside of the department.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to explain procedures clearly to patients and assist in sterile procedures.

  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures, including AED function, crash cart location, and oxygen tank usage.

Preferred Skills:

  • IV access experience.

  • Previous medical assisting experience.

  • Experience with sterile procedures.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Requires a full range of body motion and the ability to lift/carry/move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

  • Medical office, exam, and treatment rooms. Exposure to radiation, communicable diseases, and conditions common to radiology settings. Work location may vary.
