POSITION TITLE: Senior Manager of Development and Communications
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Development
HRS PER WEEK: 40 hours+
CLASS: Exempt
COMPENSATION: $70,500 – $76,960, Depending on experience
BENEFITS: Eligible for health, vision, and dental insurance the first of the month following 30 days of employment, with other benefits eligibility after a 90-day mutual introductory period is completed. Eligible for FFLC-sponsored benefits (e.g. paid time off benefits such as holidays, floating days, vacation, and sick leave).


SUMMARY OF POSITION: The ideal candidate for this position is a strategic thinker and skilled communicator who is deeply committed to FOOD For Lane County’s mission. We are seeking an experienced leader with strong organizational and project management skills, a collaborative work style, and demonstrated success in development and communications. This person is an exceptional storyteller with the ability to amplify the voices of our staff, volunteers, donors, and program participants.

In collaboration with the Director of Development, the Senior Manager of Development and Communications oversees all aspects of FFLC’s communications strategy, brand management, marketing, and public events. This position supervises a small but impactful team and ensures that communications efforts are integrated, strategic, and reflective of FFLC’s mission and values. The role includes managing systems for content creation, outreach, public relations, fundraising communications, and engagement strategies.


PRIMARY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Leadership and Supervision

  • Supervise the Event and Media Relations Coordinator, Marketing Coordinator, and Program Communications Specialist
  • Provide coaching, support, and regular performance evaluations
  • Promote a positive and inclusive work environment centered on FFLC’s values
  • Build and maintain systems for team project management and ensure accountability to them

Strategic Communications and Brand Management

  • Regularly visit and engage with FFLC programs to gain firsthand insight into their operations, build relationships with staff and volunteers, and ensure communications accurately reflect program work
  • Develop and implement effective communications strategies to engage a diverse audience of clients, donors, volunteers, and community partners
  • Ensure adherence to FFLC’s brand guidelines and manage brand consistency across platforms and materials
  • Oversee communication resources, tools, and systems for quality and efficiency
  • Oversee design and production of FFLC marketing materials (signage, flyers, brochures, advertisements, promotional items, vehicle graphics, etc.)
  • Review and approve final edit of content created by other staff members

Media and Public Relations

  • Set and oversee all media outreach and strategy, including proactively seeking media coverage, managing press relationships, and preparing talking points
  • Serve as a spokesperson as needed; coach and prepare others for media interactions
  • In coordination with the Director of Development, develop talking points for speeches and presentations
  • Lead all aspects of contract video production for large-scale projects including, hiring vendors, scripting, scheduling, coaching subjects, and overseeing final edits
  • Develop strategies and oversee content creation for communicating donor impact and program stories

Digital and Social Media

  • Set and oversee FFLC’s digital communication strategy including website, email marketing, and social media
  • Ensure regular, engaging content that reflects the breadth of FFLC’s programs and community impact
  • Monitor and analyze engagement metrics to improve reach and impact
  • Oversee website content and ensure it is kept up to date and accessible

Development and Events

  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to ensure alignment of communication strategies with fundraising goals
  • Oversee and support fundraising events
  • Maintain positive relationships with donors, business partners, sponsors, and vendors

OTHER TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represent FOOD For Lane County to the public with professionalism and knowledge
  • Attend all required meetings, including All Staff, Supervisor, and departmental meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: We value all forms of experience, including unpaid work, lived experience, education, and training.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, nonprofit leadership, or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience supervising staff and leading teams
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with attention to detail and timelines
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills
  • Ability to enforce boundaries and consistency around brand standards
  • Demonstrated experience creating and executing communications strategies
  • Knowledge of media relations and experience developing press materials and managing media requests
  • Experience developing email marketing campaigns and using digital communication tools
  • Familiarity with social media strategy and engagement metrics
  • Experience managing websites and keeping content current and accessible
  • Experience managing public events and working with sponsors and vendors
  • Knowledge of video production processes and vendor coordination
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, and communications platforms
  • Experience with direct mail preferred
  • Safe driving record, valid Oregon driver’s license, current vehicle insurance, and ability to use personal vehicle for FFLC business
