Job Summary

This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained, or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining SC security clearance can be a lengthy process, and we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made if the necessary security clearance isn’t obtained within 12 months.

Are you seeking a great career opportunity? Join us at Defence Munitions (DM) Crombie as a Munitions Support Operative.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will be working to tight timelines and with critical ammunition outputs. You will provide support to receive, store, maintain and issue a range of general munitions and complex weapons to equip the Armed Forces. This role provides a mixture of collaborative and autonomous working. As a multi skilled operative who can work flexibly, you will be operating a varied range of Material Handling Equipment. Other essential tasks will include berthing, loading and unberthing Royal Navy, Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships at the deep-water jetty as well as operating fixed machinery and shoring ISO containers.
You will have opportunities to work on a range of associated documentation and IT Support, all to ensure that our Armed Forces are correctly supported and supplied in a timely and effective fashion. You will be working on site and in our warehouses, adhering to safety guidelines and procedures to ensure the safe, effective, and consistent handling and storage of ammunition and explosives. You will be a proactive team player who can adapt to frequently changing, customer-focused environments.
We will provide you with guidance and training in explosives and non-explosives stores accounting and logistic systems. Working in various process buildings, you will find this role is full of variety and will give you opportunities to gain experience in Defence Munitions, the intricacies of working with these items, and the ways in which we transport our goods around the world.
Regular in-person attendance is required (this will be 100% of your working week at Defence Munitions: Crombie)

What you’ll be doing
- Supporting General Munitions in meeting production targets with due regard to safety, time, cost, and quality.
- Adopting a multi-skilled philosophy and approach in supporting wider depot operations and activities in accordance with local and departmental policy and procedures.
- Checking all routine and/or priority receipts and that issues are investigated, and any paper and computer records are accurately completed.
- Ensuring all palletised loads are prepared and documented in accordance with the relevant Unit Load Specification.
- Handling munitions and explosives in a safe and efficient manner.
- Assist with shoring and stuffing/unstuffing of ISO containers.
- Operate a variety of MHE – full training will be provided, adhering to the organisation’s Health & Safety regulations.
- Assist with all logistics and storage activities to ensure that customer requirements are met on time and in full. This may include working on board HM ships and at other military establishments.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Experience in working with stock and/or in a warehouse environment.
- Basic IT Skills, including the use of Microsoft Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
- Must be over the age of 18 due to explosive handling regulations.
- Must hold a full UK manual transmission driving license.
- Ability to work as part of a team or autonomously.
