The Senior Rails Engineer will play a key role in expanding and maintaining our core product — the web application that powers our iPad-based visitor management solution. You’ll collaborate across the company to deliver high-impact features, optimize system performance, and keep our codebase clean, testable, and scalable.

This is a great opportunity for someone excited about building tools that make people's lives easier, who enjoys thinking through long-term architecture, and wants to be part of a supportive, values-driven team that believes in working smart, staying curious, and laughing daily.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design, build, and test new features in our Rails application — the hub for customers configuring their iPad check-in experience
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and leadership teams to scope, plan, and deliver value-driven work
  • Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code that balances present needs with future flexibility
  • Build and improve third-party integrations to make our customers’ visit data even more powerful
  • Maintain and enhance system performance, using tools like APMs and error tracking
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure quality, security, and consistency across the team
  • Share ideas, ask questions, and bring a product-focused mindset to everything you do
  • Demonstrate alignment with our core values — the FABRIC of everything we do: Fun, Authentic, Bold, Respectful, Innovative, and Collaborative

Requirements

  • 4-5 years of experience building and maintaining full-stack web applications using Ruby on Rails
  • 2 years of current Rails expereince
  • Strong proficiency with RESTful JSON APIs, both building and consuming
  • Comfortable working across the stack — backend design and frontend usability
  • Passion for the customer experience and a willingness to engage in user feedback
  • Curiosity-driven approach to problem solving — you like to figure out how things work
  • A “get it done” mindset that balances persistence with healthy boundaries
  • Commitment to quality, testing, and debugging — you care about reliability and trust
  • Experience with third-party integrations (webhooks, JSON APIs, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of mobile platform constraints and opportunities

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with major Rails upgrades (e.g., Rails 5 → 6 or 6 → 7)
  • Experience building scalable systems (handling hundreds of requests per second)
  • Familiarity with subscription billing tools like Stripe or Recurly
  • Exposure to iOS development or building for mobile platforms

Tech Stack

  • Languages: Ruby, ERB, JavaScript
  • Frameworks & Tools: Rails, Minitest, ViewComponents, Tailwind, StimulusJS, Hotwire
  • Infrastructure: PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq
  • OS & Environment: macOS

This creates an environment that’s authentic for customers and fulfilling for our team — leading to sustainable, healthy growth.

Our core values — Fun, Authentic, Bold, Respectful, Innovative, and Collaborative — show up every day through:
