Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Banquets at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort supports the Director of Banquets in overseeing all banquet operations across the resort. This includes managing event setup, execution, and breakdown for weddings, conferences, galas, and resort functions. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-touch environment and delivers world-class service through thoughtful planning and proactive leadership.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of all banquet functions, ensuring a seamless guest experience.
- Supervise banquet managers, captains, servers, housepersons, and bartenders; provide coaching and performance feedback.
- Ensure proper setup and breakdown of events according to Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), paying attention to detail and timing.
- Partner with culinary and event planning teams to execute all events to brand and client standards.
- Monitor staffing levels and delegate responsibilities to ensure efficiency during events.
- Support budgeting and cost control by monitoring labor, food, and beverage expenses.
- Ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, and health regulations.
- Inspect all banquet areas before, during, and after events for cleanliness and readiness.
- Resolve guest concerns and feedback in a professional and timely manner.
- Uphold Sandestin’s brand standards and core values in every interaction.
- Act as the Director of Banquets in their absence.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of progressive banquet leadership experience in a full-service hotel, resort, or luxury venue.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale events (up to 1,000 guests).
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of banquet service techniques, food and beverage terminology, and event setups.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a high-volume environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with event management or POS systems a plus.
- TIPS and ServSafe certifications preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged Standing and Walking: Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods—up to 10–12 hours per shift—often on hard surfaces and in large event spaces, including ballrooms, lawns, and waterfront venues.
· Lifting and Carrying: Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs regularly. This includes moving tables, chairs, banquet equipment, and décor items during setup and breakdown.
· Bending, Stooping, and Reaching: Frequent physical movement is required, such as bending to set up items at low levels, reaching overhead to adjust lighting or décor, and stooping to check under tables or carts.
· Manual Dexterity and Fine Motor Skills: Ability to handle small objects, adjust linens, manage paperwork (such as Banquet Event Orders), and operate standard office or banquet equipment.
· Climbing and Balancing: Occasional use of ladders or step stools to assist with décor placement, lighting, or AV setup.
· Indoor/Outdoor Work: Must be able to work in both climate-controlled environments and outdoor settings, including exposure to heat, humidity, rain, or cold, depending on the season.
· Hearing and Verbal Communication: Ability to hear and respond to radio communication, guest needs, and team instructions in often noisy, high-traffic environments.
· Visual Acuity: Must be able to see clearly at both close and far distances, including reading event layouts, floor plans, and safety signage.
