The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services’ (Iowa HHS) Division of Public Health, Bureau of Health Statistics is seeking a Data Scientist (Data Scientist 1).SummarySupport agency-wide initiatives to strengthen Iowa HHS capacity for population health statistical analyses for local, regional, and state-level data. Work with Iowa HHS leadership and local public health partners to provide advanced statistical and predictive analytics and modeling.ResponsibilitiesLeadership: lead cross-collaboration efforts with leaders and community partners to support choice of statistical strategy and modeling.Statistical Acumen: conceptualize and conduct population health analyses applying mathematical, statistical and machine learning language and applications.Team Building and Communication: disseminate findings and engage with stakeholders on action steps.Applicant will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position. This position is eligible for remote or hybrid work arrangements. The selected candidate must reside in Iowa and be able to report to the Des Moines office on occasion. Experience may be gained from direct provision of health care or from other ancillary programs and support mechanisms such as government public health departments.OR968 Statistics20 semester hours in post-high school coursework in statistics (please provide transcript to document)OR103 Computer Science6 months experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in the study of computing, programming, and computation in correspondence with computer systems.Minimum Qualification RequirementsApplicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:1 ) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business analytics, economics, data science, statistics, mathematics, management information systems, or industrial management, and experience equal to three years of full-time work in business/data/statistical analytics, economic research, or data science.
  • All of the following (a, b, and c):
  • Three years of full-time work experience in business/data/statistical analytics, economic research, or data science; and
  • A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience in business/data/statistical analytics, economic research, or data science, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Possession of a professional certificate in data science, business analytics, or data analytics.
  • All of the following (a, b, and c):
  • One year of full-time work experience in business/data/statistical analytics, economic research, or data science; and
  • A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience; and
  • A total of two years of graduate-level education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university coursework in business analytics, economics, data science, statistics, mathematics, management information systems, or industrial management equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Data Analyst 2.
