About the Role
AI Concierge is Playlist's first shared AI product, a 24/7 front desk assistant that answers calls, responds to client inquiries, and books classes and appointments automatically for fitness and wellness businesses. It's live today for Mindbody customers, deeply integrated into each business's system of record, with real-time access to schedules, pricing, and client history so it works with minimal setup and no technical lift from the operator.
The product is already driving measurable results. As of April 2026, active users are saving an estimated 25 hours per month by automating routine client communication, and more than 90% of their messages are handled without staff involvement. Read the launch announcement or watch AI Concierge in action.
As Engineering Manager for AI Concierge, you'll lead the team building the next phase of this product: expanding it across Playlist's portfolio of brands (Mindbody, ClassPass, Booker, EGYM), deepening its integrations, and pushing its reliability and reasoning further. You'll work at the intersection of applied AI and production engineering, turning fast-moving model capabilities into a system operators trust to run their front desk.
What You'll Do
- Lead a team of engineers building and scaling AI Concierge, staying close enough to the codebase to review architecture and unblock hard technical calls, not just manage from a distance
- Own end-to-end team management: recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and performance
- Set technical direction for AI Concierge, balancing fast iteration on new capabilities with the reliability operators depend on for a live, revenue-critical product
- Partner closely with product, data, and applied AI teams to prioritize what ships next
- Make architectural decisions that hold up as usage scales across multiple brands and millions of client interactions
- Own the quality bar for the system: this includes the eval and monitoring approach that catches regressions before operators do, not just feature delivery
- Contribute to engineering-wide practices and standards beyond your own team
What You Bring
- 3+ years managing engineering teams of 6 or more, ideally in a still-technical, close-to-the-code capacity
- Experience shipping and scaling AI-powered SaaS products in a B2B2C environment
- Strong Python skills, with comfort moving across a mixed stack (React, C#)
- A track record of taking AI capabilities from prototype to something reliable enough to run in production
- Clear communication with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
- Comfort setting technical direction in an area that's still genuinely ambiguous; this isn't a solved problem you're inheriting
- Experience with modern AI development tools and frameworks
- A genuine interest in building a strong, diverse engineering team, not just a stated one
Technologies We Use
- LLMs and generative AI frameworks
- AWS (ECS, SQS, RDS)
- Python
- TypeScript / JavaScript / React / Next.js
