Mechanical Engineering Interns at Acorn work with Acorn staff and suppliers to design products and bring them to reality. Strong technical design and analysis capabilities are required. As an intern, you will experience and participate in the product design cycle for a variety of products, such as brainstorming, design, analysis, prototyping, and testing.
Mechanical Engineer Intern position is open for our Milpitas California office summer May-August 2026.
Requirements
- On the path to a BSME; MSME desirable
- Creative thinking, ability to generate ideas
- Strong mechanical sense—aptitude for design and problem solving
- Engineering analysis skills, including Structural Analysis and Thermal Analysis
- Good verbal, written, and visual communication
- Good interpersonal and people management skills
- Materials knowledge, including metals and plastics is a big plus
- Familiarity with lab, shop and machine tools
- SolidWorks and/or Pro-Engineer experience, SolidWorks preferred
- Willing to work hard and learn; Enjoy variety and fast-paced atmosphere
Education
- Junior or senior level
Responsibilities
- Assist the Acorn team in defining, designing and developing product solutions based on client requirements
- Participate in brainstorming sessions
- Create sketches to illustrate concept alternatives
- Perform structural, thermal and tolerance analysis of designs
- Create CAD models and documentation of designs
- Prepare project and technical reports and create and maintain BOMS
- Help select and support suppliers for prototyping, tooling and production
- Assemble, test and evaluate prototypes
