JOB TITLE SUMMARY

Job Title: Resident Assistant, Student Employee

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20 hours per week

Job Week Assignment: 36 weeks per year

Rate of Pay: $13.75 per hour

Work Cycle: Monday two weeks prior to the start of fall semester through graduation

This application is open to Federal Work Study (FWS)-eligible students as well as non-FWS students. Fifty percent of the available positions are reserved for FWS students.

Job Summary

The resident assistant (RA), student employee is responsible for fostering a healthy and positive residential environment to promote student success. This position aids residents in developing a sense of community and improving their interpersonal skills.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities

  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values
  • Develops a thriving student community within the residence hall through programming consistent with the Residential Life Experience Lindenwood (ResXL) curriculum
  • Creates door and residential hall decorations according to building’s theme
  • Assists with Residential Life special events
  • Leads floor meetings and assists with student check-in/check-out according to established procedures
  • Conducts building walkthroughs to address policy violations; documents violations according to established procedures
  • Assists with opening and closing the residence hall
  • Maintains scheduled hours to ensure engagement with residents and completion of assigned building tasks
  • Assists with Genius Hub tasks as needed
  • Promotes campus engagement by encouraging residents’ attendance at campus-wide events
  • Refers students experiencing emotional, academic, or other hardships to appropriate resources as needed
  • Seeks to develop mentor/mentee relationships by having intentional conversations with residents
  • Responds to the needs of students, colleagues, and community members in a timely and courteous manner
  • Communicates consistently with residential community coordinators (RCCs) or area coordinator (AC) about residents’ needs
  • Attends scheduled Residential Life meetings, team-building events, and training activities
  • Helps to create and implement scheduled activities and programs within the residence hall
  • Assists in creation of Residential Hall Association proposals
  • Assists in creation of engaging content for residence hall social media accounts
  • Mediates roommate conflict
  • Collects, organizes, and composes correspondence for department staff

Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Currently enrolled at Lindenwood University
  • Primary residence in campus housing
  • Good academic and financial standing with the University

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality surrounding sensitive University and constituent information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use good judgement, think critically, and make on-the-spot, informed decisions pertaining to residential situations
  • Ability to confront sensitive situations effectively and constructively
  • Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to learn and apply University policies and procedures
