Operations Manager

Haulaway Storage Containers has dynamic sales team dedicated to delivering exceptional service and value to our customers. Exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager with a well-established, industry leader in Environmental Services.

In this role you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Roll-Off and other lines of transportation business in Southern California, providing multi-departmental leadership and operational management to establish and achieve performance & productivity metrics, as well as drive cost management processes.

Successful candidates will have a history of demonstrated success in the transportation and/or logistics industry, experience managing & coaching drivers, good computer skills, and a solid understanding of the waste industry (preferred).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the roll-off division, ensuring efficient routing, dispatching, and service delivery.
  • Monitor budget and operating metrics while optimizing processes, procedures, and performance.
  • Ensure that all facilities are in compliance with all Federal, State, OSHA, DOT and Local regulations and requirements.
  • Oversee personnel needs of the locations including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating their performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Participate in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develop and implement programs for achieving optimal equipment utilization, equipment preservation, and conservative labor and material costs.

Qualifications


Primary Job Functions:

  • Train and support Inside Sales/Account Managers on customer service, pricing, order entry, and proper roll-off product knowledge.
  • Lead and manage operational workflows for roll-off hauling services.
  • Manage the Sales Team day-to-day operations, maintain performance standards to consistently achieve productivity metrics.
  • Review daily, weekly, and monthly reports to track performance, identify issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support the team in upselling additional services such as extra pulls, exchanges, and permanent service conversions.
  • Work closely with leadership on budgeting, staffing, hiring, and resource planning.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for major accounts, resolving service or billing concerns and building long-term customer relationships.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the Inside Sales/Account Manager team, providing coaching, performance feedback, and workflow support.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Dispatch, Yard, and Safety teams to coordinate container availability, timely service, and operational priorities.
  • Approve pricing adjustments, credits, or service exceptions based on company guidelines.
  • Oversee schedules, PTO requests, and workload distribution for operations and sales support teams.

 

Candidate Qualifications:​​​​​​​

  • Bachelors Degree required (Business preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of operations management experience, ideally in waste management, transportation, logistics, or a related service industry.
  • In depth knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other related state and federal regulations.
  • Waste / Recycling or Transportation Industry experience.
  • Experience managing a sales or customer service team (Inside Sales, Account Managers, or Customer Support).
  • Strong understanding of roll-off equipment, container sizes, routing, and hauling operations (preferred).
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, especially with customer complaints, scheduling issues, or operational conflicts.
  • Proficient in dispatching systems, CRM platforms, MS Office Suite, and order-entry systems.
  • Ability to analyze data and create action plans to improve service performance.
  • High level of professionalism, customer service, and team collaboration.
