Opportunity in Barrie and surrounding area, reporting to the Clinical Placement Manager, the incumbent’s role is to reinforce learning of students in the Occupational Therapist & Physiotherapist (OPTA) program while carrying out treatment plans for a broad range of clients across the lifespan. Semester assignments may be on campus (e.g. Paeds Clinic) or off campus (e.g. acute care, hospital, long term care, etc.) depending on the needs of the program and will occur under the direction and supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OT).  The incumbent will have a clear understanding of program learning outcomes and be able to not only support students towards meeting those outcomes but also provide timely verbal and/or written feedback using strong communication skills and program specific tools.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Clinical and Academic Delivery
•    Conducts individual occupational therapy sessions with OTA/PTA students under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist (OT) in the assigned placement site either on or off-campus (dependent on assigned location)
•    Participates as a member of the clinic multidisciplinary teams/committees to promote quality service within the full scope of practice of an Occupational Therapy Assistant
•    Supporting, demonstrating and providing practical learning resources and opportunities to reinforce theory taught by faculty
•    Monitors/observes client’s response to treatment and keeps the supervising Occupational Therapist informed
•    Provides training and education to clients, families, and caregivers, regarding use of therapeutic strategies 
•    Collaborates with clients, families, and/or other caregivers to provide patient-centered care 
•    Provides orientation to site-specific policies and procedures to students within the OTA/PTA program and monitors this while in clinical with students
•    Provides support and guidance to students and ensures that students are able to apply learning from the classroom in the clinical environment. Includes skills refreshers and remediation as appropriate or for specific groups as required.
•    Mentors students through clerical duties as would be expected in future workplaces of an OTA/PTA graduate (e.g. client scheduling, financial transactions, appointment reminder calls, etc.)
Administrative Support
•    Organizes and maintains the clinic equipment and materials (on campus location)
•    Photocopies and makes therapy materials as required, or requested, for individual clients 
•    Prepares documents on interventions provided, responses to treatment and client participation, using approved format 
•    Maintains and records client attendance and accurate documentation in the client health record
•    Promotes the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment using clinical site’s infection control procedures
•    Supports client recruitment activities through sharing and development of marketing materials (*for on campus clinic)

    Qualifications:

•    Successful completion of at least a 2-year diploma in Occupational Therapist Assistant or Physiotherapist Assistant from an accredited program
•    At least 2-years experience delivering Occupational Therapy services under the direction of an Occupational Therapist
•    Experience working with students or in a mentorship role would be considered an asset
•    Familiarity with the Guidelines for Professional Standards as per the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
•    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) 
•    Computer literacy skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
•    Excellent time management skills
•    Demonstrated knowledge of privacy legislation as it pertains to healthcare settings
•    Current knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines in the healthcare setting
•    Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records system would be considered an asset
