About the Department
The City of Jefferson is currently accepting applications for a Pumping System Mechanic for our Wastewater Division. This position repairs and maintains the wastewater treatment plants and sewage lift station pumping systems, including all equipment associated with systems. Assists with daily plant operations and maintains all buildings and grounds for the division.
Position Duties
Repairs treatment plant and lift station motors, pumps, valves, gearboxes, and other equipment; troubleshoots, rebuilds, and/or replaces malfunctioning equipment.
Performs preventive and other scheduled maintenance on wastewater and lift station equipment, including calibrating, lubricating, and changing fluids; performs regular inspections of pumping stations and records readings; records needed parts, services, inventory, and repairs.
Responsible for assisting with daily operational duties, including operating boom trucks, dump trucks, sludge trucks, forklifts, and other heavy equipment; collects samples and some testing; troubleshoots process control problems.
Maintains plant buildings, grounds and pipes and performs repairs as needed.
This position will have some on-call requirements on a rotating basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and five years' of experience working in the wastewater field or related automatic pumps, controls and motor experience.
Physical: Ability to lift heavy equipment weighing up to 100 pounds. Ability to work with hazardous chemicals. Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions.
Mental: Ability to read and comprehend meters, charts, and O & M manuals. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Other Qualifications
Must have a valid Missouri Class B CDL and a Missouri Class D Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License, Class C is preferred.
This position works Monday - Friday from 7:30AM to 4:00PM with a rotating stand-by schedule. Employees working stand-by will receive stand-by pay of $16.60 per day during the weekday and $41.50 per day on weekends.
