About the Department

The City of Jefferson is looking to hire a knowledgeable and dependable Parks Maintenance Worker within the Parks Department. Do you enjoy working outside, building things that last, and making a direct impact on your community? Join our Parks & Recreation team as a Parks Construction Worker and help shape the green spaces where families play, communities gather, and nature thrives.




Position Duties

Builds and repairs park infrastructure such as playgrounds, trails, shelters, restrooms, picnic areas and more. 

Operates heavy and light equipment, and hand tools to perform functions including mower, weedeater, chainsaw, brush hog, mini excavator, chipper, backhoe, skid loader, bobcat, and trucks. Training is provided. 

Works on new park developments and park renovation projects. 

Collaborates with a team that values safety, craftsmanship, and team work. 

Maintains and inproves the quality of life for residents through public spaces. 
 
Performs snow and ice removal on trails, parking lots, and sidewalks.

Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment.

Maintains accurate, reliable records of daily work, equipment used, worksites, and projects. 

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Works under the general supervision of the Parks Resources Supervisor. 



Minimum Qualifications

Physical:  Ability to work in extreme weather conditions; lift carry, push and pull up to 100 pounds; stand for extended periods.
  
Mental: Ability to follow directions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and organize equipment, supplies and vehicles necessary for daily work tasks.  Must be a positive Parks and Recreation representative while working closely with golfers, co-workers and the general public.

Obtains and maintains Missouri Class A CDL with air break endorsement. 

Parks Maintenance Worker:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one-year experience directly involved in construction or building and grounds maintenance.

Senior Parks Maintenance Worker:
Requires a high school diploma and four years' experience in construction or building and grounds maintenance. 

Other Qualifications


Typical hours worked are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Weekend hours may be required, based on the needs of the department and community events.

Specific job title and salary depend upon qualifications. Minimum starting salary for a Parks Maintenance Worker is $17.81 per hour and maximum salary for a Senior Parks Maintenance Worker is $28.05 per hour.
