Summary:
The Business Controller functions as a business partner to the Gardner-White functional leadership primarily the merchandise and marketing team. This role is responsible for accurate and timely reporting of functional KPI’s and marketing / advertising program ROI’s, supporting the functional leadership for development and tracking of budgets and forecasts, and providing quality analysis to drive business performance. This role requires an understanding of accounting principles, merchandise and retail business processes, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and operational efficiency. This role will report to the CFO and work cross functionally to support the CMO and VPs of merchandise. This role will also take a pivotal role for the ERP and analytical tool integration for accounting and financial reporting purposes.
Job Responsibilities:
- In coordination with functional leadership, prepare accurate and timely reporting, budgets, and forecasts
- Drive financial oversight of marketing, product costs / margin, and S&OP strategy initiatives
- Conduct financial analyses to interpret trends, key drivers, and variances from standards; provide counsel on performance improvement opportunities and actions
- Review, challenge, and enhance processes and repeatable analyses in support of performance management and continuous improvement
- Assessing risks and opportunities in budgets, forecasts, and tracker updates
- Monitor functions’ adherence to approved budgets and coordinates updates with FP&A Manager
- Work with Internal Control Manager to implement and ensure compliance with internal finance and accounting policies and procedures; identify and correct for potential control risks in a timely manner
- Proactively assist in developing projects to identify opportunities for cost savings / profit enhancement and efficiency improvement throughout the company
- Provide support on ad-hoc requests and special projects
- Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position currently does not have supervisory responsibilities but is a possibility in the near future.

Requirements
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required, CPA preferred but not required
- At least 7 years of accounting and/or finance experience required
- Experience in retail industry is preferred
- Must be process and business solution driven; have the ability to translate financial data to actionable business opportunities
- Must have the ability to pivot through large amount of data to identify issues and opportunities to drive business performance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required, with the proven ability to develop and execute financial presentations to an executive level audience
- Must be highly proficient with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with a solid understanding of data analysis techniques
- Solid understanding of business dynamics and operations with strong business acumen
- Must be flexible, able to contribute to a team environment, and able to manage multiple priorities
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, with regular working hours based on the needs of the business.
