JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES
POET’s tax team is responsible for managing the precision of the company’s tax filings; properly accounting for income taxes; actively tax planning; and accurately forecasting income taxes. The team is in constant communication with all areas of the business including financial reporting, investor relations and treasury teams to ensure accurate tax reporting and to explore every opportunity to reduce the tax burden of the company.
The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for providing support to POET’s tax function. To succeed in this role, you should have an eye for detail, an interest in learning about tax rules and laws and a desire to take personal responsibility for completing tasks and solving problems. This position is ideal for a results-driven, positive-minded candidate with strong analytical skills.
This team member is a valuable part of the corporate tax team and is involved in tax compliance, tax planning, and decision-making throughout the year, working as part of a team to accomplish goals. If tax accounting interests you but a tax season doesn’t, then this job is for you!
This is an on-site role located in Sioux Falls, SD. Responsibilities include:
Review and discuss current tax theories, laws, or proposed tax legislation.
Use an industry-leading research platform to examine filing requirements and tax issues through the internal revenue code, treasury regulations and other relevant authorities/guidance.
Collaborate with other teams on gathering accurate data and the integration of process improvements.
Use streamlined software to prepare tax returns and tax provisions for a multifaceted group of entities included in POET’s consolidated corporation.
Calculate required estimated tax payments by accurately applying tax laws and rules and integrating forecasted data from various software applications.
Participate in a variety of engaging training opportunities that provide role-specific skills or even an update on the latest tax legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
2-5 years of relevant experience.
Ability to handle multiple priorities.
You have a positive attitude and are excited about learning new skills!
Excellent organization and time management skills with a sense of urgency that drives results.
Knowledge of the basics of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability of learning new programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in an office environment, working at a personal computer where you may sit or stand. Most of our Sioux Falls office workspace consists of an open-concept design intended to promote open communication and collaboration.
