PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: The Cutter Operator will lead and assist the team in safely setting up, maintaining, and operating the machine(s) to acquire quality product while maximizing throughput. They will also define problem statements, conduct root cause analysis, and troubleshoot mechanical issues that occur on the machine. The Operator will escalate unresolved issues to the Lead Operator or Maintenance, while remaining available to assist in order to build their capabilities in the resolution of the issue.
*In order to fulfill the requirements for the Cutter Operator, team members must demonstrate proficiency in the roles and responsibilities of a Cutter Apprentice and Production Assistant.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review job tickets to determine components, settings, and adjustments, for cutting machines
- Examine and measure materials to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring devices such as rulers and micrometers. Verify setups and make necessary adjustments.
- Adjust controls to alter position, alignment, speed, or pressure.
- Maintain robotic equipment or related automated production systems. Modify computer-controlled robot movements based on job (Centre South only)
- Work with robotic tech to make sure the Axium is set up for the upcoming job and assist the robotic tech during any issues with the Axium throughout the run (Compress location only).
- Maintain production records, such as quantities, types, and dimensions of materials produced
- Removed defective or substandard materials from machine and readjust machine components so that products meet standards.
- Move stock or scrap to and from machines manually or by using carts, hand trucks or lift trucks
- Change or replace knife, scaring rule and rubber, using hand tools and adhesives. Additionally ensure all waste is appropriately segregated by board type
- Spend daily, intentional time with team members to know and serve them, encouraging their growth and development and providing regular feedback on their progress in training
- Own your personal safety and that of all SCT team members by identifying, correcting, and escalating any safety hazards.)
- Own the quality of our product, escalating and/or solving issues identified, while developing quality awareness in team members
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with all team members (on and across shifts), Supervisor, Mechanic, and the SCT team at large.
- Maintains a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety, Kanban and 5S systems
- Adapts to Continuous Improvement and follows new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation
- Coordinate with Lead Operator to effectively utilize team members during machine downtime (not including approved breaks) to maintain a clean and safe work area, develop your team in areas defined by the standard work practice, or support another area in need
- Flow to the work or need of the site with positivity, occasionally performing a different job or supporting a different department based on production needs (Ownership/Servant-hearted)
- Serve as a backup to the Lead Operator in their absence Perform preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled by clean and lubricate cutting machine, conveyors, bundler, labeler, automation using compressed air hoses, scrapers, brushes and other greases/lubrications
AUTHORITY: The Cutter Operator must have the ability to lead those assigned to their team to execute the demands of the gluer operation efficiently and to respond to verbal instructions from the Lead Operator or Supervisor and other written instructions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, must lift/move 25 to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 12 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during his/her shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which may require both eye and ear protection in some areas. Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, if a machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job, questions regarding such operation should be directed to your supervisor as they arise.
